Dr. Elmer Huerta has been a leader and innovator in the field of cancer prevention for well over two decades. Dr. Huerta is the Director of the Cancer Preventorium at Washington Cancer Institute/MedStar Washington Hospital Center, a low-cost prevention and screening clinic he founded in 1994 as a vehicle for reaching the underserved, urban Hispanic/Latino community in the Washington, DC, area. Yet over this time period, in addition to serving as the President of the American Cancer Society and Senior Medical Correspondent for many television networks, he may best be known to millions of Spanish-speaking people across the globe for his nationally and internationally syndicated radio shows: Cuidando su Salud (Taking Care of Your Health); El Consultorio Comunitario (The Community Clinic of the Air); and Hablemos de Salud (Let's Talk About Health). Most recently, in December 2012 Dr. Huerta's book, La salud Hecho facil! (Your Health Made Easy!): Consejos vitales para llegar a viejo lo mas joven posible!, was published.
